East African Community

The newly appointed Deputy Executive Secretary of the Lake Victoria Fisheries Organization (LVFO), Mrs. Lucy Ayugi Obungu, was officially sworn in on 16th April 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya. The ceremony was presided over by the Chairperson of the LVFO Fisheries and Aquaculture Sectoral Council of Ministers, H.E. Hassan Ali Joho, Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs.

The event was also attended by the Executive Secretary of LVFO, Mr. Tom Mukasa Bukenya, alongside other distinguished guests.

Mrs. Obungu’s appointment comes at a pivotal time as the fisheries sector continues to offer significant opportunities for livelihoods, food security, and regional integration within the East African Community. Her leadership is expected to further strengthen LVFO’s mandate in promoting the sustainable management and development of fisheries and aquaculture resources across the region.
